Acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol and countless other OTC medications, is responsible for hundreds of deaths per year due to liver toxicity. And it's easier than ever to overdose on these OTC meds, since each year a dozen or more medications are introduced that contain high levels of the compound.

Here's a short list of the OTC medications that contain acetaminophen:
Actifed
Alka-Seltzer Plus
Anacin
Benadryl
Contac
Dimetapp
Feverall
Goody's Powders
Midol
NyQuilŽ/DayQuil,
Pamprin
Robitussin
Sinutab Sinus
Sudafed
Tavist
TheraFlu
Tylenol
Vicks VapoRub And these are just the OTC meds. Popular prescription pills like Percocet and Vicodin are chock full of the stuff!

Acetaminophen has caused so much grief that the FDA was finally forced to man up and stamp the offending OTC products with the industry dreaded "black box warning". (http://clicks.healthiertalk.com//t/AQ/S3s/T+g/ijY/AQ/Ao-FbQ/sAe9) And in a recent move, the FDA advisory panel just voted to recommend a ban on Percocet and Vicodin. What do you suggest taking for Sinuses I usually get in the spring and fall?
I used to take Alka-Seltzer Cold and Sinus and it helped me a lot. I have started taking my C & E vitamins because of the scare they have out there on the Swine Flu. I have not gotten the flu of any kind for years and I have not taken a flu shot since I was a teen. I did have the flu as an adult, but I survived.

Look into a Neti pot to rinse your sinuses with salt water. My health food store sells several kinds. You can buy the salt or just use sea salt with distilled water. Make sure it is just lukewarm-I got mine a little too hot and it hurt!

You can also put straight colloidal silver (CS) in a Neti Pot (do not diulte or it will inactivate the CS).
Rinse as soon as you come in from outside or being around sick people.

Some other options:
I use Stinging Nettles-they work better than antihistamines for me.
Check to make sure it is Stinging Nettles.
There are many good homeopathic nasal sprays (I like Similasyn) or OTC
homeopathic pills.
For flu-olive leaf extract (Seagate makes a good one and also has a nasal spray and throat spray) http://www.seagateproducts.com/olive-leaf-extract.html
Sambucol is an elderberry extract that actually keeps flu virus from replicating-reducing the viral load allows your body to fight it.
And Raw Garlic rocks:)

This article isn't quite accurate-some of the names of OTC products in this list do not have acetaminophen in them.

As far as I know, plain Benadryl is just Diphenhydramine HCl; Actifed is
Chlorpheniramine Maleate (4 mg) (Antihistamine), Phenylephrine HCl (10 mg) (Nasal Decongestant); Sudafed is
Pseudoephedrine HCl,; etc.

However, manufacturers often have combination products that will include acetaminophen with Sudafed or Benadryl (like Benadryl Allergy and Cold Relief Kap Gels) so read labels.

Thanks Reesacat.. I have wanted to buy the Neti Pot since I saw Dr. OZ demonstrate it. Just have not purchased it yet. I have been told that some people use a small tea pot to do the same as the Neti Pot.
I will look into the organic nasal spray I am using Saline Solution right now. Thanks again.

Grandma, I use a small tea pot and it works just fine for me. The neti pot's are great, but in my opinion, as soon as Dr.Oz was on Oprah, the price skyrocketed...$25+ in some health food stores...

I also agree...(not that I am promoting OTC drugs) but it is usually the one's that have "plus" or "extra strength" or 'pain relief" that will have acetaminophen as an adjunct compound...

Also, just a side note for some sinus relief...steam, steam steam....
Place your head over a steaming bowl of salt water with a drop or two of peppermint/eucalyptus essential oils. I use a towel to contain the steam over my head..and breath in for about 10-15 minutes.

And it behooves me to say....Be careful when you are working with recently boiled water!

I've done that too when the neti pot just wasn't enough, but I've used a few drops of oil of oregano which seems to work just great.

I never thought to use oil or oregano, but it makes sense considering it's healing properties.:)
