Fruit markets in the UK have begun selling an African fruit, which has three times the Vitamin C of an orange and twice as much calcium as milk.
The baobab fruit has been revered in Africa for thousands of years for its health benefits (http://www.medindia.net/news/Superfruit-With-Three-Times-Oranges-Vitamin-C-Hits-UK-Markets-63130-1.htm#), and now an EU ruling has enabled the fruit pulp to be imported for the first time to the UK;British manufacturers are already starting to produce products containing it.
The fruit of the baobab tree looks like a velvety coconut on the outside and its white, powdery pulp looks like sherbet and has a cheese-like texture.
It can be blended with anything and is highlynutritious and packed with antioxidants, iron and potassium.
The shell is extremely difficult to crack so it will not be available to buy as a whole fruit in Britain but will instead be used as an ingredient.
The fruit powder has a unique, tangy taste described as "caramel pear with subtle overtones of grapefruit".
The baobab, which is also known as the upside-down tree, is cherished by African villagers who believe its spirit protects them. Only specially trained climbers are allowed up the tree to pick the fruit.
PhytoTrade Africa, the not-for-profit trade association is the only approved baobab pulp supplier in Europe.
"The availability of baobab is timely with attention on South Africa with the World Cup (http://www.medindia.net/news/Superfruit-With-Three-Times-Oranges-Vitamin-C-Hits-UK-Markets-63130-1.htm#) taking place," the Daily Express quoted chief executive Gus Le Breton as saying.
"Consumers can now get hold of it directly for the first time and we expect food manufacturers to roll out their own baobab lines from smoothies to cereal bars and confectionery as they take advantage of the booming market in healthy (http://www.medindia.net/news/Superfruit-With-Three-Times-Oranges-Vitamin-C-Hits-UK-Markets-63130-2.htm#) foods," he added.
Products already available include baobab jam and lemonade. In addition, baobab fruit powder can be bought for use in home cooking.
Baobab has not been allowed into the UK until now because legislation prevented the import of food that was not commonly consumed in the EU before 1997.

ROFL!!! Do you think he still trolls here? This sounds comparable nutritionally to Moringa though but maybe tastes better.

Heh. I doubt it. He's too busy promoting all those schemes from Adept Solutions.

What ever happened to that dude?
I still never understood how he got the green bar.

Big mistake. At that time, the number of posts automatically moved you to the next level. His big mouth moved him eventually to the "master" level. When Dr. M realized the ramifications of his decision...plus some other ramifications that were going down simultaneously...not only was the green bar revoked, Mr. Russ was invited to leave...permanently.

Holy smokes. I wondered about that too...I think he was dealing with some legal issues at the time too, wasn't he? Anyway, he posted and posted and posted and all of a sudden he was green. He was becoming a movie star celeb....lol. Hit the top equal to the great Dr. M himself....
There was a few that disappeared permanently when they came into conflict with Dr. M. But, I guess, it's his site to do with as he wishes...;)

There were certain issues about which he was a fanatic, and not just on mercola. He went off on the R.C. church in his local newspaper too, and the language was spicy to say the least. And yes, he allegedly stole a sweetener formula from a place where he'd formerly worked.
His plant (Adept Solutions) does precisely what Dr. M is always cautioning us against: processes food. Somehow he had mercola buffaloed about how swell he was. Then several things happened at once: his postings brought him up to the level of the doc, which was unacceptable...and he was caught in some ethics misbehavior as well. The way it was told to me, Mercola showed him the door rather abruptly.

We rarely hear from mmc88121 now though. I wonder if she has also become disillussioned about V V. It would be great if she found this forum.

Really? Without meaning to be unkind, I always thought she was a bit of a joke. Some of us called her "Me too Mary" because she posted in every single topic...but all she ever had to say was a variation of "how true" or "That doesn't apply to me." She never had much of value to contribute to the conversation—but her post count sure was high!

Ahhhh...now I know who you guys are talking about! I totally agree Islander, never figured that out either...she never said much except in concurrance...hey!! Wait...that's me!!!! lol:cool:
Aaltrude...just tried to send you a private message to ask about mmc...but your private message box is full and the box says you need to clear it honey!
Hahahaaa!!!:D
I never realized it was post count. I thought it was point count, how others voted for you. ??

Technically that's true, your point count had to reach a certain level for you to move up the chain. But if you post in every single topic and people throw you a few points, over the years I guess it adds up. (We looked at her join date and tried to do the math, and we never could figure out how she got her blue bar so fast).

Yes, it is your point count Katee that determines your status on V V. From memory, I think it is novice up to 200 points, apprentice up to 1000 points, savvy up to 5000 points and you become a master at 10,000 points.

Apparently when the discussion forum was first started the point levels were a lot lower because they were not expecting it to take off as fast as it did. I gather the point levels were adjusted upwards when it became obvious that people were going to acheive the various levels too quickly and easily but they could not demote those who had already acheived a certain level. If this is the case, it could explain that Islander.

Yes, that does make sense. It accounts for a lot.
People who made Moderator used to have some actual privileges. We could see home addresses, phone numbers, points accumulated etc. Now the blue bar and a dollar will buy you a cup of coffee.

Yes, when the site changed to its present format those priviliges disapeared but most of them are back again Islander. I can now see all of that except for points accumulated. We now have the options to edit and delete our posts again. It would appear the present format is a work in progress and they are listening to what the members are saying.

The site is still annoying in that it takes forever for the pages to load, thus making it nuts to try to read a thread! I like the idea of being able to edit and delete my own posts. Not sure who actually votes anymore. It seems like most just post comments and rarely are there numbers seen as in the day of Dr. Bianchi...

They still don't have a New Comments Feed.
It was so easy to scan new comments to pick up on discussion.

I'd go along with that. The New Comments Feed was the main way I used V V, much like the New Posts link here.

I do not get why the introductory material has to be replicated on EVERY page. If they confined it to Page One of each topic, the remaining pages would flow and there would be way fewer of them.
If you notice, the majority of posters are newbies who don't understand the mechanics of a message board and often fail to use the Reply button, often ask Dr. Mercola a direct question (like an M.D. is going to dispense medical advice to a stranger on a website), ask stupid questions because they never heard of Google or the search box at the top of EVERY page, ask how they can print out a copy for their patients in the waiting room (USE THE PRINT BUTTON, YOU MORAN!) and so on and so on.
I think what happens to sites like these (and it may happen to us) is that veteran members have assimilated it all and move on. They are replaced by members to whom all of this is a revelation. My observation, though, is that the overall intelligence level has declined since the days of Russ, PPARGammaGirl, Stoic, Bridestein et. al. We used to enjoy spirited discussions. Now I just cruise pages 1-2 and the last page, because that's where the interesting stuff is. Many topics, like this week's on tap water, I just dump. Nothing there we haven't heard again and again, including all the whining about fluoride. Don't like it? Become an activist in your community! But QUIT WHINING!
Thank you for listening, I feel better now...:)

Glad to be of service....:) Hee hee.
... yeh, used to enjoy some of those firey discussions myself. Sometimes they would just veer off into some really intense religious or political stuff which is absolutely ridiculous to attempt to discuss on forum's like these...I think stoic liked to screw with people's heads...I rarely understood what the heck he was talking about when he went into his diatribe's .... But nonetheless he was entertaining!
I'm guilty of asking Dr. M a question or two, and he actually responded. I never made a habit of it. Wonder what happened to GammaGirl...she always had me ROTFL outloud!?
I think it is okay to be civil in communications like we are here. Sometimes VV got really competative and actually offensive when some bullies were around (Mr. Noname , sad to say, appeared to be a bit of a racist. The minute he discovered that an individual was not Caucasian he would go to all their posts, even historically, and ding them bigtime. I saw him do it to a few newbies. The administrators noticed it too). That was how he was banned, apparently.
A fair exchange of useful information conducted in a civil respectful manner is why I am here anyway....:)

And we help Islander feel better:p !
I can help Islander feel better, as well. Shortly prior to finding the Hawkes forum, I recall feeling quite exasperated at the lack of spirited, yet intelligent conversation on VV. This led to something completely different (for me), namely "doing something about it". Hence the search for other forums, and eventually settling in here. I thought that I had seen PPARGammaGirl on here a few months ago, but could have been mistaken about that. I do wonder where some of the others mentioned might have gone. :)

Gamma Girl's a member here but her life has been rather tumultuous in recent months and I'm afraid she hasn't much time for msg boards and such. Other escapees from mercola signed up here, Rogway and Stoic and that herb doctor among them. Oh, and brief flings with Sheila Clark and Jennings (who was DuParc on mercola). I have been scrupulous about not mentioning this website on mercola's site; he knows about it, and at one time Russ accused me of "luring or enticing posters away from mercola to here" which is of course ludicrous; I can't influence anyone's behavior and as I say, knowing how easily offended Himself is, mentioning HH on mercola would be waving a red flag. It's in my Profile but you have to want to look.
So Maurya, I don't remember how you found us but I'm glad you're here!

Another thing that annoys me is when you click to move on to the next page of the comments it opens the next page at the bottom of the page and you have to scroll up to the beginning of the comments.

Yes you horrible lot - Russ Bewanchi here channeling through PPARGammagirl. You all conspired against me to bring me down.
I DO NOT make high fructose corn syrup - it's hugh frictose carn syrip - not the SAME thing at all - it substitutes a carboxyl group with an old sock!!!!! And I NEVER worked for the corn syrup industry - that was my twin brother who happens to have the SAME NAME!
And I NEVER misappropriated that sweetener - the formulation came to me in a dream and the next day when I went to work the b@$tards had stolen it off ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
And XYLITOL is NEVER made from birch - that's a dirty lie!!! We made ours from Ixylotl tails - a distant Albanian cousin of the better known axolotl.
So I hope you are all happy with your handiwork. I'm now in the upstate penitentiary whittling toothpicks from coffee spoons and sewing licence plates on mailbags - THANKS!!!!!
