Did You Know… that a naturally generated amino acid known as aspartic acid can completely relieve fatigue within 7 days?

During the 1950s and 1960s, European researchers discovered a simple and inexpensive way to treat physical and mental fatigue — including the kind caused by chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).They found that aspartic acid supplements could seriously boost stamina and alertness and benefit health in many ways.

What is Aspartic Acid?

Aspartic acid (also called L-aspartate) is a nonessential amino acid, which means that your body produces it naturally. It’s also an excitory amino acid transmitter, which means it stimulates the synapses in the central nervous system and spreads messages and instructions through your brain.

It also plays an important role in the conversion of carbohydrates into energy. Proper levels of aspartic acid are necessary for the synthesis of other biochemicals and amino acids.

Aspartic acid is key to a healthy metabolism. It’s also key to the way your body energizes itself. One of the primary tasks of aspartic acid is to generate cellular energy.

I found this article very interesting however, there are a few points I have major difficulty with. In all my CFIDS reading/research over the last 2 years, I have never once seen a claim that aspartic acid can CURE CFIDS. I really get angry when authors jump to these kinds of conclusions and over simplify CFIDS. Let them spend ONE day in our shoes and they'd change what they write! My other caveat is that aspartic acid is very similar to glutamic acid (glutamate) as far as its actions in the brain. If a person is MSG sensitive, doesn't tolerate long cooked broths or ferments, chances are pretty good they'll have a similar problem with aspartic acid. Asparatic acid is one of the 2 major components of aspartame...that's a scary thought! If you decide to try this, I would start with a very small amount and look for symptoms such as head aches (especially migraines), GI problems, flushing, itching, depression and on and on and on. It doesn't take much to push you over the edge if you are intolerant or don't need it.

The next article I read and posted has more info about aspartic acid! Make sure you read this one too :) http://www.hawkeshealth.net/community/showthread.php?t=7535

I know some CFIDS patients that tried aspartic acid and it didn't help. The studies the author cites were conducted on athletes, patients with multiple causes of fatigue, and patients with post-surgery fatigue, not CFIDS.
