I received an email from my daughter-in-law in England this morning which concerned me about my 3 year old grandchild. The email reads as follows:

Hi Jane,

Adie has Herpes Simplex on her eye, its quite severe, we had very stressful few days trying to get some help from NHS, seen 3 GPs and finally an eye specialist last night. She will probably have a permanent scarring on the eye duct, which might cause excess watering of the eye. Luckily her eye hasn't been scarred and she shouldn't have any issues with vision.

Love p x

I am wondering if any of you have ever heard of this before and if you have any suggestions that might help? Adie is otherwise very healthy, eats well and is always on the go but perhaps there are some supplements she should take? I do not think she is given anything extra over and above good organic food.

Other than taking large amounts of the amino acid L-lysine, I can not be helpful.

I'm about to publish a link to a comprehensive article on the clinical applications of vitamin C. I've always been a huge believer in the power of C and this very detailed article has only enhanced my opinions. You might want to scroll down to where they talk about Tx for specific conditions.

Are they certain of the diagnosis? Did either parent have an open cold sore or is she in a day care situation? Unfortunately, this may have a tendency to recur. While active, possibly colloidal silver in teh eye itself and also taking olive leaf extract. The goal should be strengthening her immune system with Vitamin C, D, A etc. It's great she's eating an organic food diet. Keep us posted Jane :)

Yes I have now found out that Mum had a cold sore last week and did not realize how infectious they are. I agree about the immune system strengthening for both of them as once they have it in the system, herpes simplex can recur every time the immune system is weakened.

Jane, is this the same grandchild that had chicken pox a few months ago? (Chicken pox is herpes zoster, not herpes simplex but still a herpes virus.)

I agree with Maurya on the L-Lysine plus all the other good advice.
I swear by L-Lysine. I had terrible cold sores all through childhood. About 20 years ago read about L-Lysine being a great anti-herpes viral fighter and started taking it. No more cold sores.

Yes Reesacat, the same grandchild who had the chickenpox and I had already made the connection and questioned Petra but then she told me she had had a cold sore last week. I am passing on all your good advice for which many, many thanks as always.
