Very low doses of growth hormone given over a period of 6 months to premenopausal women with abdominal obesity markedly increased their bone formation, boosted their muscle mass, and reduced their abdominal fat, according to a study presented here at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 97th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting.
"It is very well known that women who have a lot of abdominal fat have low growth hormone...— lower than in the normal population. In this study, we just replaced it to normal values using very small amounts," Miriam Bredella, MD, from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, told Medscape Medical News.
