Onions for Better Health, says World Health Organization

Everyone loves onions but few recognize how good they are for you! They are full of protective phytonutrients, vitamins, trace minerals, and unique anti-inflammatory compounds. Onions are one of my favorite powerfoods (http://www.care2.com/greenliving/5-ways-powerfoods-help-us.html).
6 Health Benefits of Onions:

1. WHO recognizes that onions help relieve symptoms such as coughs, congestion asthma and respiratory infections.

Early American settlers used wild onions to treat colds, coughs, and asthma, and to repel insects.

In Chinese medicine, onions have been used to treat angina, coughs, bacterial infections, and breathing problems.

I've learned a lot of this about onions over the last few years but I always thought I hated them. After Reesacat talked about grilling them, I discovered I love them this way and have been experimenting with putting them in other things too. Definitely going to have to look into it further as far as asthma goes.

Dr. Terry Wahls encourages 1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked onions every day as part of the 9 cups of vegetables and fruits as part of her diet protocol. I realized I needed to eat more onions! I do enjoy them grilled:).

I love onions, raw or cooked, add them to anything where they seem to be happy!

I'm really glad onions are on the low pesticide list. I was buying organic which was $4.99 for 3 lbs and most of the time, they were old and rotting. So, I tentatively bought conventional onions and seem to tolerate them well. After reading Reesacat's comment, gotta go get more :)

Mellow, onions are rated #1 on EWG's "Clean 15" list. Have your fill!

I love onions raw and cooked. I eat onion most days but would notice adverse gastro effects if I ate as much as Terry Wahls advocates.
