I gave a talk about the Confederate sub "Hunley" last night. Got a standing ovation and rave reviews. First sub to ever successfully attack an enemy ship (although the entire crew died in the process). We are launching the Starship Vixen on Friday. First sailboat in the water at our marina. Heard a parula warbler yesterday; and the dunlins are back. It's time to sail! Hoka hey!!!

Mellowsong, although it would have been great to meet you, I doubt you are 20 miles from Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Umm there's a Hunley there too? LOL. I thought "the" Hunley was in Charleston :) I see my mistake...I read your "on the Hunley" as being actually aboard the Hunley. Excuse my feeble brain, lol.

So the ice is out there already, Stephen?

Congratulations on the success of your talk!
Are the parula warbler and the dunlins back early? Here is Wyoming, reports from all around the state indicate that migratory species are showing up between 1 week and nearly 3 weeks early this year.

Could the misunderstanding be between the civil war submarine and a fairly modern submarine tender (a surface ship that was stationed in Scotland for many years)? My understanding is that the sub tender Hunley was decommissioned several years ago, and quite possibly now could be tied up in South Carolina. IMHO this is a great use for formerly great ships of the sea. In our area, across the river in Camden, we have the battleship New Jersey, which is open for tourists to visit. I have been on board many times, including a secret, private tour of the engine rooms and fire rooms.

@Maurya; no, he's talking about the same Hunley I am, I just misunderstood his "on" as onboard, not about, lol. He's told me before he's come here to see it. I'm easily confused.

Ice? It was an eerily warm winter. And, yes, our migratory birds are very early this year. Even have hummingbirds back already.

I give many Civil War talks. This one just so happened to be about the CSS Hunley, the first sub to have a "successful" mission. The next sub to sink an enemy ship was the German U-21 which sank the British cruiser "Pathfinder" during WWI, in the fall of 1914. A full fifty years after the Hunley sank the USS Housatonic.

Eerie, yeah, it's called Climate Change, and yes, we had a mild winter too. Still, our lakes and ponds being somewhat smaller than Lake Michigan, we had ice thick enough to support the usual snowmobiles, pickup trucks and ice houses. But the Ice was out in most places a week or two ago. Ice fishing season is for sure over!

I guess you don't listen to Rush Limbaugh. He says climate change is a liberal myth. Of course, he's a dip wad.
