Hi -

we've had a lot of discussion about different supplements both here & @ Mercola. I know that essentially ALL the vitamins, etc. in the grocery store are synthetic, & non-bioavailble. I do most of my shopping @ a local health store that has a huge room full of vitamins, supplements, minerals, herbal concoctions (SP?), oils, protein powders & an assortment of many other things. It is quite overwhelming.

Question: How do i know which are best? I've read that just because they are expensive they are not necessairly the best. Also, the cheepest are not the best or the worst. Has to do with the company. I also know that in choosing my food @ this store, i still have to read labels carefully as they put in things that are not the healthiest (if i'm buying anything processed at all.) I'm assuming it is the same for the items listed above. So how do i choose the ones that are the healthiest?

Suggestions? Thanks.

I use the vitamins and supplements from 2 labs that alternative doctors use. They are Douglas Labs and Integrative Therapeutics. I figure if they are using them, then I could not find a better product. For what it's worth.

I like Garden of Life, also.

I have found the best for me are:

1) whole food supplements like chlorella and barleygreens
2) if I have a choice between a capsule and a tablet I take the capsule
3) things I can take with food do better for me
4) good fat-I eat the coconut oil right out of the jar!

Food is the fuel, suppliments are the matches to light the fuel.

I didn't get the proper fuel in my 'stove' for years, and spent a fortune on supplements. My body was starved for good fats and sick from the food allergies and additives.

:) Most of the supplements you can buy from the health stores and grocery stores are at minimal dosage so that they can be taken by everyone. I actually see a naturopath for my supplements as they are "practitioner range only" and are at the maximum dosage and more specific formulas as they are "prescribed".....
I always suggest seeing a practitioner eg naturopath, herbalist, TCM.....or unless its a certified organic product eg my InLiven superfood ;)
