Yeah, that's the impression I got from researching that piece... plastic bags, and not just rubbish near the ocean either. It said a lot comes from stuff dropped in suburban areas that's washed out via storm water drains to sea. Man there were some disgusting photos of it all, blech. Makes me feel sick.

I only ever use re-useable bags, I've got so many of them it's getting stupid. People keep giving me them too!!

Give some away to the pinheads who are still using plastic?

Might have to. I've already complained to my local supermarket this year as well about their staff... the average trip goes something like this:
Me: *puts armful of stuff on the counter* "Don't worry about a bag, I have my own, here..."
Checkout girl: *starts putting things in plastic bag*
Me: "No, I have my own bag, see?" *takes things out of plastic bag and puts in jute bag*
Checkout girl: *opens new plastic bag*
etc

It's infuriating - surely these people should be trained to put as many things as possible in plastic (usually they'll use a separate bag for pretty much everything), and to use re-useable bags where they can?

Maybe they should teach them English first instead... lol.

We have the opposite problem. The check out operators where we live have been trained to put as much as possible in a bag. We go to the supermarket armed with more reusable bags than we will need so the load can be spread out and each bag is not to heavy. Even when we ask them not to put too much in each bag, they still load them up.

MMmmm but this will be why you are in the middle of a natural therapy degree and thay are behind a supermarket counter.
I find it always pays to be friendly and pleasant though. A smile and a thank you goes a long way.

It does, I agree... and I'm very good at putting on my sweetest smile and being as pleasant as possible, even if inside I'm stringing together swear words and raging about how infuriating they are, hahaha. It takes a lot to make me rude to somebody's face (or behind their back). And even then, I feel bad and can't really do it that well, lol.

Unless you're the government, and it's today, and you're at a whaling meeting... but that's another story.
