If you want to lose weight, you need to eat less — and if you want to eat less, it helps to write it down.
When researchers studied the eating behaviors of female dieters they found that the most important tool linked to successful weight loss was a pen and notebook. It’s called a “food diary”.

Women who kept food journals and consistently wrote down the foods they ate lost more weight than women who didn’t.
What’s more, researchers found that skipping meals and eating out frequently, especially at lunch, led to less weight loss.

Food Diary is an effective way of tracking your calories. With the food diary write everything which you eat and write down your reaction after eating that food as it help in knowing the cravings for certain foods. With this you can review your diet and replace the high calorie foods with healthier choices.

I'm so sick of this "eat less" bull!!! If only it were this simple! Maybe it is for most, but I don't think so. Maybe keeping a journal made them think not only of how much but WHAT they were eating.

Keeping a journal never influenced me to eat less. If anything, I think I eat more when I keep a food diary because it makes me think about food. (I normally forget to eat until I'm about to pass out and then I go WT_? Oh, yeah.) I do use a food diary sometimes to record reactions and try to see patterns.

I step on the scale daily because I seem to be sensitive to certain foods (my faves, of course) and the weight can creep up quickly if I don't monitor it carefully. Grits and popcorn: if I don't get on the exercycle after eating them, I'll be up a pound the next morning. Didn't used to be that way.... damn corn!

You just had to go and mention "popcorn", didn't you? LOL

Any grain (including corn) or potatoes puts lbs. on me in a day. I seem more tolerant to sugar (except it can make me itch). So literally I could eat a couple pieces of pizza or some potato salad and be up 3-5 pounds overnight. If that's not a giant clue I don't know what is. However, I could eat two Snickers bars and actually lose weight if I don't overeat other stuff.
