New Study Links Acetaminophen (Tylenol) To ADD, Hyperactivity

Another damning study indicates it is simply time to pull the plug on this outdated drug

The study just published in JAMA Pediatrics once again indicated that women who take acetaminophen (http://www.greenmedinfo.com/keyword/acetaminophen) during pregnancy are more likely to have a child with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (http://www.greenmedinfo.com/disease/attention-deficit-disorder-hyperactivity). The researchers also found that prenatal exposure to the medication was associated with a higher risk of having children who exhibit other emotional or behavioral symptoms.

I'm going to toss in my 2¢ worth here and suggest that what we call ADD or ADHD is multifactorial. Sometimes it's merely the result of keeping young children seated and inactive for too long. In many cases it's a clear cause-and-effect of a child's having consumed sugar or MSG and other possible additives. And sometimes no cause can be found. Can it be genetic? We really don't know.

Excellent point, Islander. Acetaminophen is really some nasty stuff, capable of destroying the liver with prolonged use. But, you're right about linking this stuff to ADD or ADHD. When I read closely, it appears they are not absolutely sure either, which is why they use weasle words like, "....are more likely......and....use was associated with.." When I read such qualifiers as these phrases, my antenna go up.
