  1. Re: 'A savagely broken food system': Cory Booker wants radical reform ... now

We have one slaughterhouse on the island, called the abattoir. It has been broken down and non-functional for so long that no animals have been slaughtered for years. Of course, the supply of local...
  2. Re: Thousands of ducks released to protect Thai rice fields from pests

As long as we are on poultry, one of my favorite family traditions was Martin's Goose Day. One of my foster families was Swedish, and this was a very big deal, the goose being consumed totally. ...
  3. Re: Thousands of ducks released to protect Thai rice fields from pests

I grew up eating the ducks which my foster brother had shot on the shore of Lake Erie. My favorite was a Widgeon. Yes, they are a real mess to pluck. Guess who had to pluck a duck?

by Robin Young and Serena McMahon

    September 10, 2020

President Trump knew in February that the coronavirus was deadly and worse than the flu, even though publicly he downplayed the virus’...
  5. Re: AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine Study Put on Hold

What Mr Wizard said. I am much more afraid of the alacrity with this incident might be pushed aside and covered up as supposedly being inconsequential. When it comes to the vaccine industry, it...

    Re: Superhero Virus Hunter

I always have referred to NAC as "stinky pills". Good thing they come in capsules; I don't think I would tolerate making a drink with the powder version.
  8. Re: Long, Frequent Naps Predict Alzheimer's Dementia

As usual, one should ask about cause rather than effect. A person whose brain is fighting against inflammation will need more naps to rest from the struggle.
  9. Re: How To Reduce The Amount Of Energy Your Hot Water system Burns Through

I have a similar system, but the on demand water heaters are electric. I had them installed (one for upstairs, one for downstairs) when I had the solar panels installed. They don't last forever;...
  10. Re: Ex-Soldiers Say Potential Covid-1 Drug Triggered Depression, Memory Loss

That anthrax vaccine was instrumental in my decision to leave active duty in the US Navy.
  11. Re: Trials Seek To Answer If Vitamin D Could Help In Covid-19

Life Extension has a supplement that is a blend of K1 and K2. Not trying to promote them in particular, but just to say that this exists and is available.
  12. Re: From ‘brain fog’ to heart damage, COVID-19’s lingering problems alarm scientists

The point to be gained from this, and from other articles of information which I have read, is that it is a big mistake to focus only upon death rates from Covid. If recovery means only being...
  13. Re: Coronavirus: ‘Very low’ risks to children mean school reopenings are safe, expert

Living children tend to be more efficient learners than do dead children.

Athena Akrami’s neuroscience lab reopened last month without her. Life for the 38-year-old is a pale shadow of what it was before 17 March, the day she first...

What possibly could go wrong with this?! [Face palm]
  16. Re: You Must Not 'Do Your Own Research' When It ComesTo Science

Oh yes, must abandon all efforts at independent thought. Sit down now and leave your fate up to the experts. No.
  17. Re: Rebuttal Of Study That Says Keto Diets Don't Work

And no wonder so much distrust has built up about the official government recommendations for anything. When so many official edicts have been revealed to be just so much BS, sponsored by various...
  18. Re: Eat Less Red Meat, Scientists Said. Now Some Believe That Was Bad Advice.

As usual, the devil is in the details. What was the animal fed during its life? "Red meat" from cattle can be toxic to humans if the animal is fattened quickly by being fed corn, soybeans, etc....

Re: The Mask Slackers Of 1918

What Mr Wizard said. As well, there is a certain attitude and mind set among some people which says "it can't happen to me, I'm so special, it might happen to other people but not to me". I don't...
  20. Re: Some Vaccine Makers Say They Plan To Profit From Corona Virus Vaccine

This really grinds my gears, that my taxpayer money should be used by these thieves to generate exorbitant profits for themselves.

Re: Raw Deal? (Raw millk sales)

Goat meat is extremely popular around here. I don't particularly care for it, but as a properly prepared curry dish, it can be quite delicious. It's a Caribbean specialty.
  22. Re: If Relaxed Too Soon, Physical Distancing Measures Might Have Been All For Naught

Same here. This is a small island, and our Covid cases had been in the single digits for several months. Then the desire for dollars took over the Governor's senses. Tourists and refinery workers...

Re: Raw Deal? (Raw millk sales)

Let's not forget goats' milk, along with the cheese and yogurt made from it. It is available straight from the farmer, and I find it to be much more digestible than cows' milk products.
  24. Re: Blood Test Can Detect Cancer Years Before Symptoms Show

Islander's question exactly is my concern about this and about all of the "screening" tests which constantly are being pushed at us. In my mind, if I were not to be doing anything differently with...
  25. Re: Covid-19 Vaccines With ‘Minor Side Effects’ Could Still Be Pretty Bad

Would I take a chance on one of these new "not too many side effects" vaccines? Not a snowball's chance in hell.
