A new peer-reviewed study has found DNA damage and elevated cell death of blood cells in soybean workers exposed to fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides in Brazil.

Glyphosate and 2,4-D were among the herbicides used by the exposed group. 2,4-D is increasingly used to combat glyphosate-resistant weeds in GM soybean fields.
The paper is available in full at the link given below.

Marina Silva, who was once Minister of the Enviroment in Brazil, tried very hard while in that position to protect the environment against multiple onslaughts, including GMOs. She ended of 'resigning'. It must have become impossible--or maybe downright dangerous--to continue fighting economic interests and pressures from many sources. Well, I give her lots of credit for trying, and for resigning instead of staying and caving.

She came from a very poor background, and has an interesting story. Daughter of a rubber tree tapper in the Amazon, she first worked as a housekeeper, didn't learn to read til she was 18, then got an advanced degree when she was around 26. There's a lot more, of course, but that's the nutshell version.
