Default Will This Nut (Walnut) Stop Alzheimer's All By Itself?

Will this nut stop Alzheimer's all by itself?

Did you know that, as you age, you accumulate potential toxic proteins in your brain? And did you know that these toxic proteins can lead to memory problems and other brain problems? That's the bad news. The good news is a new study shows how you can easily improve your memory and cognition. In fact, it shows how you can reduce damage to the neurons in your brain that comes from oxidative stress and inflammation.

In this study, researchers fed 19-month-old rats a diet that was either 6% or 9% filled with walnuts. They found that this diet significantly reduced the toxic accumulation of polyubiquinated proteins (the bad stuff). It activated autophagy - cleaning up the debris - in key brain memory structures. And it cleared the polyubiquinated protein aggregation!

Thanks Reesacat. Walnuts have long been considered to be very good for the health. Just be careful that they (and other nuts) aren't rancid if you buy the ones that are already shelled. The only problem I have with articles written by "Newsletter Doctors" is that they are all selling a product of some sort, usually an expensive brand of supplements, and much of the info they impart is both superficial and common knowledge. Still, they are undoubtedly of some benefit to many folks out there.

Commercial walnuts have very high pesticide residue so, best bet is to buy organic and unshelled.

Aren't all nuts from the US radiated? Or is that only almonds?

AFAIK, only almonds. Soon a smart person will come along and correct me.

Almonds are the only nuts forced to be pasteurized by law at this time. They use gas, irradiation or steam (and are still allowed to call them raw). The gas is a fuel that was banned from race car use because it was so carcinogenic and dangerous. That's how the FDA protects us in the US. However, my understanding is that nuts coming from another country are irradiated. I did a search and from what I can find is that often walnuts are irradiated even if grown in the US....didn't know that....and there's no way to know unless you buy organic. Label laws are really iffy and not enforced as far as identifying irradiated products. If everything has been irradiated the label has to say so but it can be in teeny tiny print, like the ingredients. If only partially irradiated, no label required.

In line with Doctrine of Signatures. Often true for herbs as well.

It's usually best to buy nuts still in the shell. Walnuts are high in arginine. I wonder if this is a reason they are so good for people. The burr oak acorns from my back yard are toxin free and organic. People don't know how to use acorns. They are a marvelous food.

Still pitching acorns. Here's a site that pretty much tells you how to use them.

Thanks for that info, Stephen. After I read your first post about acorns, I immediately wondered how to use them for food. Not that there are any oak trees where I live...

They are probably best fed to pigs - then eat the pig! The old 'cork and pork' forests of Portugal are a good example of this - I don't think they exist any more.
