Do yourself a favor: rev up your cat’s purr motor. You will both feel great.
It is already well-established fact that having cats or dogs (or bunnies, etc.) in the family is good for your health. Even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledges it. Many studies have found a variety of health benefits we derive from petting and interacting with companion animals.

We have a dog rather than a cat. She doesn't purr but she enriches our lives in more ways than I can count. All pets are therapeutic if you take the time to interact with them and let them to work their magic. For one thing, it's unlikely that we will ever find anyone as thrilled to see us as our pooch when we've been gone for a few hours. It's sweet and funny and completely heartwarming. We also get out and walk more than we otherwise would because she won't take no for an answer, even when it's wet and cold outside. To me, a home is an empty place without a pet in it.

I've had both species, sometimes simultaneously, but I have to admit that at heart I am a cat person. They getcha with that purr!
