    I'm stocking up! Glad to see Dr. Shallenberger speak out against magnesium oxide being difficult to absorb. Personally, I use chelated magnesium glycinate because glycine--an amino acid--speeds transport across the gut wall and decreases the chance of diarrhea, which may happen with higher intake of magnesium. Another great chelated form is magnesium taurate. Taurate--from taurine, an amino acid--not only speeds absorption of magnesium, but also has a calming effect on the central nervous system, thus benefiting people who have trouble sleeping, jitteriness, hypertension, etc. So, different forms of magnesium are absorbed differently and can have other tangential benefits.

    In addition to Mg Taurate and Mg Glycinate, as mentioned by Mr Wizard, Mg Malate has been found to be beneficial by some, and Mg L-Threonate has the property of being able to cross the blood-brain barrier. Each form has a different function within the body, so as supplements perhaps taking a variety should be considered.

    @Maurya: Excellent point!! Varying magnesium supplements is a great point because they all provide different benefits. I never viewed it quite this way. You always provide a different--but useful--perspective on issues.
