    Default Hershey dumps sugar beets because of GM concerns

    Regional co-ops are worried about losing big candy customers

    Something was different about a lot of the Hershey’s kisses in your stocking this year: The popular chocolates no longer contain sugar made in Minnesota.
    For decades, the Hershey Co. has used sugar made from both sugar beets and sugar cane, but it decided earlier this year to stop buying beet sugar because it comes from genetically modified, or GM, seeds that some consumers don’t like.
    Hershey, with 2014 sales of $7.4 billion and more than 80 brands of candy sold around the world, was a huge customer for beet sugar farmers, and its decision was significant enough to be noted earlier this month at two annual shareholder meetings of sugar beet cooperatives.

    Oooohh, I see where this may be going. I sense opportunity may be knocking on Hershey's door, now that international relations are reopening with the U.S. and organic farming Cuba, as Hershey may be wanting to return to their old "stomping (growing) grounds";

    This "new" Central Gulf (CG Railway) rail car ferry service, now 20 Y.O., could reopen the door to future agricultural trade with ORGANIC Cuba. Back in CA 1960, the now defunct Sea Train rail ferry went out of business when Castro took over Cuba, and Hershey Chocolate, among others, lost their property and agricultural assets there. https://www.cgrailway.com/#m_tab-one-panel (NOT SPAM)

    The Obama administration (re)opened diplomatic relations with Cuba, but the Trump administration threw cold water on that slowing things down, so it could be interesting to see if the Biden admin. resumes what Obama started??? Cuba could/should consider offering financial and asset reparations to further encourage international (organic agricultural) trade with the U.S. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seatrain_Lines.

    Most of the Cuban railroads conform to the Association of American Railroads' engineering standards (used not only by the U.S, but Canada and Mexico as well, [and perhaps China???] ), since Hershey Chocolate was responsible for a lot of the Cuban rail (and agricultural) construction there in the early half of the 20th Century. We shall see???:
