Default Victory: Obama Signs Bill Banning Plastic Microbeads

    Center for Biological Diversity
    29 December 15

resident Obama signed a bill on Monday that will phase out the manufacturing of face wash, toothpaste and shampoo containing plastic microbeads by July 1, 2017, and the sale of such beauty products by July 1, 2018.
Following the footsteps of California’s historic microbead ban, the Microbead-Free Waters Act (H.R. 1321) bans all plastic microbeads from beauty products, including those made from so-called “biodegradable plastics,” most of which do not biodegrade in marine environments.

The #microbeads ban is now U.S. federal law: https://t.co/gyYWo0aKuT Citizen muscle is > #plasticpollution. pic.twitter.com/XVFVt6xEi8

Both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives unanimously approved the bill last week.

    "Phase out"

    Better than nothing, I guess.

Seems he's done a few decent things somewhat recently. I was guessing since he no longer has to worry about re election he's feeling like he can push some of his desired agenda through.

Don't wish to get into politics, but remember, when he was elected the Republican members of Congress vowed to make him a failed president. They have managed to successfully block most of the positive initiatives he has attempted, including the closing of Guantanamo. They have also held up the confirmation of a large number of ambassadorial posts, including key posts to important allies like Norway and Mexico...for no other reason but political spite.

The level of disrespect has been epic. Nough said.

As an outsider, I am continually shocked at how President Obama has been treated by the American people. I am confident that he will prove to be great "doer" once his term of office is up.

Pretty much what I thought, too. I wonder who it was that allowed them in the first place?

As with any other product, contracts have been signed, production quotas met, delivery schedules in place, etc. It's not possible to drop something immediately, but when contracts expire, they will not be renewed. That's how I interpret "phased out."

And yes, Jane, the Obama administration exemplifies that racism is still endemic in the U.S. That's a heavy load to bear, on top of the pressures that are aways applied to the holder of the office.
