Default Wild radioactive Fukushima boars breed like rabbits, ravage local countryside

Northern Japan is raising an alarm, as the area surrounding the Fukushima Nuclear disaster zone has been overwhelmed by radioactive wild boars, whose population has increased dramatically over the past 4 years, as they breed freely in the exclusion zone.
With the number of animals steadily growing, the boar population has been devastating the crops of farms in the area. Since the nuclear disaster of 2011, damage to agriculture caused by boars in the Fukushima prefecture has doubled, amounting to some $15 million, according to a report from The Times. Boars also pose a threat to public safety, as reports of rampaging wild beast injuring local residents while roaming the streets have become more frequent over the past few years.

A recent story complained about a similar problem here at home, the overpopulation of wild boars. Ours, at least, are not radioactive and would make excellent food. If individual hunters cannot be inspired to hunt to feed their families, the meat could be donated to food pantries, homeless shelters, battered women shelters etc. Apparently there isn interest in this commonsense approach; the animals are now being baited, poisoned and disposed of. Another failure of reason.

We don't have wild boars in Australia, but we do have feral pigs. From what I've heard, they are full of diseases, so no-one eats them. I used to think these were only found way out in the bush, but a friend of mine only a few miles away has them on his five acre property.
