Default Scientists are bewildered by Zika’s path across Latin America

Please tell me what alternative interpretation there is for this report, other than that Zika does not itself cause microcephaly.

RIO DE JANEIRO — Nearly nine months after Zika was declared a global health emergency, the virus has infected at least 650,000 people in Latin America and the Caribbean, including tens of thousands of expectant mothers.
But to the great bewilderment of scientists, the epidemic has not produced the wave of fetal deformities so widely feared when the images of misshapen infants first emerged from Brazil.
Instead, Zika has left a puzzling and distinctly uneven pattern of damage across the Americas. According to the latest U.N. figures, of the 2,175 babies born in the past year with undersize heads or other congenital neurological damage linked to Zika, more than 75 percent have been clustered in a single region: northeastern Brazil.

And yet I have friends with science backgrounds who refuse to accept this possibility. I would think that a glance at that infographic would still all professions to the contrary.

As I live in an area in which many people have been reported to have the zika virus, I took interest in this article when it first was published. How can these people call themselves scientists, when they refuse to examine any factors outside their predetermined areas of interest? Factors such as pesticides being sprayed in the vicinity of humans and pregnant women being injected with poisonous vaccines at the very least should arouse scientific interest for study. But no, we should look at viruses that have no symptoms of illness, whether the facts fit the hypothesis or not.

My snarky little mind thinks that this is a corollary to the notion that a flu shot can make a person very sick, but that this illness must not be spoken of as being the flu. In the case of zika, an illness that does not make a person sick, but still must be a cause for birth defects, is twisted logic indeed.

My conjecture is that corporate interests are keeping pressure on the media to remain silent about the effect of those pesky pesticides and vaccines.

I'm with you on this one, Islander. Corporate interests = media.
