Eating the bacteria can be potentially fatal.

Update, February 23, 2017: Just when you thought it was okay to chow down on cheese, Sargento expanded its recall on February 17 due to a potential listeria contamination. Now, colby and jack aren't the only flavors at stake; muenster, cheddar and a pizza blend are also on the chopping block.
After learning new information from their supplier, Sargento is voluntarily including seven more products packaged on the same lines: Sliced Colby, Sliced Muenster, Sliced Pepper Jack, Sliced Tomato & Basil Jack, Shredded Reduced Fat Colby-Jack, Shredded Chef Blends 4 Cheese Pizzeria and Double Cheddar Shredded Cheese. You can check this announcement for the affected UPC numbers and sell by dates, including changes to the previously recalled products.
