Default Why Men Are So Happy

    Why Men Are So Happy

It's easier to see why men are happier than women -- at least, from their point of view. One woman's list:

    • Your last name stays put.
    • The garage is all yours.
    • Wedding plans take care of themselves.
    • Chocolate is just another snack.
    • You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park.

    • Car mechanics tell you the truth.
    • The world is your urinal.
    • You never have to drive to another gas station because this one's just too icky.
    • Same work, more pay.
    • Wrinkles add character.
    • Wedding dress: $10,000; tux rental: $100.
    • People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them.
    • The occasional well-rendered belch is practically expected.

    • New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet.
    • One mood all the time.
    • Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.
    • You know stuff about tanks.
    • A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.
    • You can open all your own jars.
    • You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.
    • If someone forgets to invite you to something, he or she can still be your friend.
    • Your underwear is $9.95 for a three-pack.
    • Everything on your face stays its original colour.
    • Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.
    • You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut or a bolt.
    • You almost never have strap problems in public.
    • You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
    • The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.
    • Your belly usually hides your big hips.
    • One wallet and one pair of shoes, one color, all seasons.
    • You can "do" your nails with a pocket knife.
    • You have freedom of choice concerning growing a moustache.
    • You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives, on December 24, in 45 minutes.

    Just a little stereotyping there...

I love this list. It's really cute, and rather accurate.

I know this list is suppose to be fun and light-hearted. And that's the way I took it. But, just to be clear...any woman who compiles a list like this is probably older than 50. Younger women today are increasingly dealing with the "metro-sexual" man and would never put together a list like this. The metrosexual man is not gay, but just all about himself. Everything from his adoring "selfies" to his manicures, pedicures, hairstyles, fashion, colognes, etc. These guys take twice as long in the bathroom grooming than women. Have you shopped the men's fragrance section lately? Their cologne costs 3 times that of women fragrances. I read where men in the UK last year spent more on shoes than women. Nah, this list is not accurate for today's younger men. Oh, and the metrosexuals are being overtaken by the new "sporno-sexual" man. Don't misunderstand...I like the list. I'm just saying it doesn't fit a growing number of men younger than 50.

What about this one, Mr. Wiz: "You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness." (And I might add, if you don't, you can't understand why.) Do you think this applies to younger generations?

I agree with Islander (though aren't all blonde jokes stereotyped?) and up to a point, Mr Wiz, but still thought it funny. Patty, that is too close to the truth to be really funny!

The last line fits a male friend of mine with only slight exaggeration!

Sporno-sexuals is a term derived from the words "sports" and "porno." The term is used to describe a growing number of males who work out religiously, and have sculpted lean physiques, with chiseled, muscular abdominal muscles, bulging biceps and tanned, smooth bodies. They willingly display their sculpted, semi-naked bodies publicly on social media, in print media, the movie screen, TV commercials, etc. These male sports figures, movie & TV actors, and generally athletic types are ultra-groomed. bmc, I'm with you; I even wasted my time looking it up before I had read through the thread and found that the Wiz explained everything! You know, I am aware of this type, mostly because I just read a lot and pick up trends and trivia like this. I do think, though, that it is confined to metropolitan areas. At least it hasn't trickled into Maine yet. I suspect the conditions that foster that kind of stereotype are crowded societal environments where men are in keen competition for desirable partners. Or maybe just to be noticed for the sake of their own vanity. Doesn't that have something to do with the reason peacocks evolved their splendid feathers?

I'm holding off on making any judgments or observations about the younger generation, probably because I haven't been exposed to them much since retiring from teaching. What's curious is that the interactions I have with people of all ages on a daily basis seem to be kinder, more friendly, more outgoing and outspoken, in recent months. And I don't mean merely Maine. I've been in Vegas and Boston recently, and will be in NYC later this week. When I have phone conversations with people from other parts of the country, I sense the same warmth and desire to accommodate. I can't help but wonder whether the current political climate has been fostering a little resistance in a deliberate attempt to be kinder to one another. Has anyone else had this experience?
