Default Top 5 reasons Never To Use Splenda

Splenda is marketed as a no-calorie, no-guilt sugar substitute. Blood sugar stable, it “passes right through” the body, so it’s safe for diabetics AND you won’t gain weight! Are these claims masking the ugly truth about this chemical imposter? As mounting research shows, when it comes to our diet, there is no free lunch.

    Splenda’s Spurious Claims

The allure is plain to see: a sweetener made from sugar, that tastes like sugar, but has zero calories. If the marketing is to be believed, this product is better than the real thing. It’s everything we love, with all of the evils removed.

It's hard for me to believe that people still are using artificial sweeteners. I sure do live in a little bubble!

Agree. I thought all this had been proven and accepted years ago. I'm surprised to realize that Splenda and Nutrasweet (or whatever they're calling aspartame these days) are still on the market. See my book recommendation in the Recommendation forum.

Artificial sweetners are more popular now than ever. Lots of controversy still around the safety of these sweetners. Adding to the public's confusion, the FDA has actually approved several of them: 1. Acesulfame (Sunett); 2. Aspartame (NutraSweet & Equal); 3. Sucralose (Splenda); 4. D-Tagatose (Sugaree); 5. Saccharin (Sweet 'N Low), and something called 6. Advantam?? So, big business is making millions off this stuff, and the government is approving it for use. No wonder the public is confused. Aspartame is a proven neurotoxin and multiple studies link saccharin to bladder cancer. Crazy?

Not long after I mentioned to one of my adult students the nastiness of artificial sweeteners (which was not a new idea to her), she switched and started using coconut sugar. (Her idea; I use organic demerara sugar.) I was happy about that.

Good for you, and for her, Patty. We plant seeds...sometimes they germinate and bear fruit!
