Relieved to learn that you got off relatively unscathed, Maurya. It could have been so much worse! What does your generator support?

@Ora Moose: Start a new thread by going to the forum where you intend to post. Once you click on the forum title, the option to start a new thread appears. Please follow our format.

If you intend to post something from Mike Adams, please note that three sources are unwelcome here: Mike Adams/NaturalNews et.al., Alex Jones/InfoWars and Steve Bannon/Breitbart. All three are extremist, sensational, conspiratorial and untrustworthy. The Chinese medicine item is an advertisement, also unwelcome here.

Islander: I know that Natural News is "extremist, sensational, conspiratorial and untrustworthy" but, they also report on subjects that are taboo to other media outlets, so I think it's best to be open minded and let each person decide for themselves what/who to believe. When you come down to it, ALL media outlets are biased and bought and paid for by someone's interest, right? So why let the corporate owned media have a voice but not dissenters?

    Jose, can you see...

"While Hurricane Irma continues to grab most of the headlines, Hurricane Jose continues to churn up the central Atlantic as a Category 4 storm. This storm isn’t a strong as Irma was, but it is still a formidable one in its own right."

You are correct, "The Chinese medicine item is an advertisement" and somehow I didn't recognize it as such, muchas mea culpas and I'll try and be more diligent filtering in the future if I ever get there.

The generator supports anything which runs on electricity, such as lights, this computer and its internet connection, the fans, the radio, the water heater, and most importantly the fridge and the water pump. The propane people are not in a hurry, even though they are being deluged with pestering customers just now. As my neighbor said "It's not like we are asking for anything for nothing. We are paying the going rate." They will not allow a person to go down there with their empty propane bottles and swap them out for full propane bottles at their location. So we all wait in the dark, while they get "a round tuit".

Maurya it's a shame they can't let you help yourself, glad you have that generator we have one too and they are priceless when you lose power for any extended amount of time and are basically stuck at home and can't even get out. Also glad that your internet service is staying alive.

Unfortunately, nothing works without fuel, and without fuel the generator will not power the computer, the internet connection, nor anything else. The neighborhood people are up in arms about this, but there is nothing any of us can do about it. At least we are living in houses that each have a roof. The wind speeds here never went beyond Category 4, and mostly were at Category 2 or 3 levels. We are quite fortunate with Irma. Tomorrow night we will be greeting Jose.

You all survived Irma, and I'm confident you'll survive Jose. Fingers crossed and head bowed!!

Unfortunately not everybody survived Irma. Quite a few deaths have been reported in Saint Thomas, and nobody yet knows about Saint John, as they still have no communications, and rescuers have no access by sea. Saint John has no airport, so whenever boats are able to come over there, we will begin to hear reports of the damages and deaths there.

Glad to know you are safe and secure, Maurya.
I have bottled gas for my bbq grill, but for household use I have a permanent tank for LP gas. Not sure how much it holds but based on my usage, it's filled only twice a year, for a total of ~$300. It's only used for the cookstove and on-demand hot water.

More news on the impact of Irma, don't be surprised if the prices of produce and fruit skyrocket soon

Islander, We too have mostly propane appliances in the house as our first choice for cooking is gas vs. electric, which also means you can still cook when the power is out. The house heat is gas but requires power as does the clothes dryer. Actually we are probably one of the few homes in the neighborhood that still hangs our clothes out to dry using no power, indoors in the winter acts like a cheap humidifier. The fireplace is human and chainsaw powered and derived from old or fallen trees behind the house. Can't beat an open fire for ambience and warmth.
