More than half of Americans could be drinking tap water tainted with a radioactive element. A new report from the nonprofit Environmental Working Group (EWG) finds more than 170 million people are exposed to radium in their drinking water. That could increase the risk of cancer.

Clean, contaminant-free, drinking water is a huge problem for most of the rest of the world. The U.S. is fast approaching a drinking water catastrophe, as most municipal (tap) drinking water is becoming un-drinkable. Discarded pharmaceuticals is a huge problem in most municipal drinking water.

What about well water? And here's a surprise about the most common substance found in all tests: https://www.sciencedaily.com/release...0124085601.htm

I always thought well water was fairly clean. Would have never guessed this artificial substance would have been the most common culprit in well water. Go figure? Not surprised that it doesn't break down easily. That should be a warning to us all.

Generally, the deeper the well, the cleaner it is. However, one can still experience toxic amounts of naturally occurring elements and compounds such as arsenic, fluoride, radium, brackish/salinity, etc. Then there may also be residue from nearby oilwell fracking or industrial fertilizers. Well water testing services provide for uncovering these problems.

My deep well is fine, no need to test after the last pump was installed. Shallow well is tested every few years, just in case.
