Default MCT Oil Is Food For Your Brain

MCT oil gained popularity a handful of years ago as an optional ingredient in the original Bulletproof coffee (often known as buttered coffee). Since then, its presence has exploded on the wellness market. Maybe you've eyed it in your local health food store, a little skeptical andut off by unnatural sound of the product.
Let's be real, it sounds like something bodybuilders would pour into their post-workout protein shakes. But MCT can do a lot for you, too.
So what is it? And what's the big deal?

I even didn't try this oil yet. Does this really work for human brain? Thanks!

I have read reports from people who seemed to think it enhanced their mental activity. I tried it and didn't notice any changes... but then, I'm not a good example because few things seem to work for me. Anybody else?

I take one tablespoon of MCT oil every morning just before breakfast. The product is touted 95% Caprylic Acid (C8) MCT Oil (the other 5% is C10). I order 3 16 oz bottles at a time for a small savings. There seems to be a slight curbing of my Henry the 8th appetite, as I also do intermittent fasting. Here is a well written essay descriptive of the MCT oil at the bottom of this link page.

Is appetite control the only effect you experience from the MCT oil, Grulla?

So I have to ask, if that's the only detectable effect, and it isn't working, why continue to use it? I tried 2 bottles; it did nothing for me so that was the end of that experiment. I have better ways to get rid of my money!

"...why continue to use it?" The jury is still out, the link essay explains a lot. I will give it a fair chance, not quite sure if the added 5 lbs. of weight is really connected???

Don't know if MCT oil is different, but unrefined coconut oil and olive oil, both contain 14 grams of fat per tablespoon. I was gaining weight from using both on a regular basis. Now I limit to 1 TEAspoon of olive oil a day and that keeps weight under control. Most oils--even the organic, unrefined types--are high in fat.

That may be Grulla's problem right there. He takes a T./day; the recommended dosage on the bottle is a tsp./day. I remember Dr. Mercola's article in which he recommended using it rather lavishly in salad dressings when, elsewhere in the very same article, the tsp./day dosage is specified.
I try to maintain a high fat, low-carb diet. I weigh myself daily because my metabolism is so thrifty that small changes can have large effects. If I notice a sudden weight gain, I'll re-examine my diet for overindulgence and fats or oils. That's usually the culprit. (I can eat butter right off the butter knife)!

For those familiar with the Mercola forum, former member "eh1" aka "gpw" used to point out, crucial, essential, beneficial fats can be just as prone to weight gain, just like carbs, if taken without caution. The common denominator: CALORIES.

"That may be Grulla's problem right there. He takes a T./day; the recommended dosage on the bottle is a tsp./day." The Mercola MCT oil calls for one tblspn per day. Perhaps I should reduce that to a tspn???

My personal opinion: if I've taken a supplement for 6 months and seen no benefits, I'd discontinue it. But that's just me.
