Default Frankenburgers: Impossible Burger and the Road to Consumer Distrust

For anyone who wonders why consumers aren't inspired to trust the GMO industry, consider thisbizarre statement from Impossible Foods Chief Communications Officer Rachel Konrad in defense of the Impossible Burger, a veggie burger made more meat-like via genetically engineered yeast.
Konrad was upset by a June 27 Bloomberg article Is it too early for fake meat? that raised concerns about insufficient research, regulation and labeling in the realm of new food technologies.
Konrad took to Medium, blasting critics of the Impossible Burger as "anti-science fundamentalists" and "setting the record straight" with information she sourced from chemical industry front groups and other unreliable anti-consumer messengers who regularly communicate inaccurate information about science.

Great article, Grulla. I can't speak for others, but I don't particularly want my burger to bleed. There has been way too much misinformation about this newcomer to the market, but there will always be a demographic that just doesn't care.

From a marketing strategy, why would you name your burger "the Impossible Burger?" Wait...I think I know why. Here we are: "GMO heme, soy leghemoglobin, genetically engineered yeast, etc." Yeah, that's an Impossible Burger.

I worked in the marketing dept. for a major tool company many years ago. I would have been fired on the spot if I'd come up with a name like "Impossible Burger." Go figure??
