Nature’s Path’s move “protests” betrayals by the Organic Trade Association

The widely respected and leading organic breakfast foods manufacturer, Nature’s Path, announced the company’s resignation from membership in the Organic Trade Association (OTA), a prominent and increasingly controversial lobby group representing business interest in the industry. The announcement came in a letter to the organic community last week.
The OTA has been increasingly criticized for representing the interests of corporate agribusiness at the expense of core values held by farmers, consumers, and founding business leaders.

From Jim Gerritsen (not an HH member, but a personal friend and president of OSGATA): Another well-respected organic community founder-brand, independent cereal-maker 'Nature's Path' has resigned from its membership in the discredited corporate trade lobbyist 'Organic Trade Association' over OTA policies increasingly in concert with Industrial Ag.
Nature's Path's resignation follows similar earlier actions by organic icon 'Dr. Bronner's Soap' and national membership trade organization, 'Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association' (OSGATA) (http://www.osgata.org/2016/organic-dumps-ota/).
Inexplicably but tellingly, OTA has fostered partnerships with loathsome Monsanto. In 2016 OTA helped Monsanto invalidate pioneering State GMO-Labeling Laws (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/…/on-the-organic-trade-assoc…). OTA has also partnered with Monsanto in propaganda training sessions for journalists (https://www.forbes.com/…/monsanto-pays-to-train-journalis…/…).
Jim continues to serve as President of the farmer-run OSGATA.
