Default Cannabis Is A Powerful Cancer Fighter

Medical cannabis isn't just an effective painkiller. It's also a powerful cancer fighter, tripling survival rates, say researchers who hope it can be introduced into cancer clinics 'almost immediately'.
Cannabidiol (CBD) has been tested on pancreatic cancer which is almost untreatable, with chemotherapy achieving just a 7 per cent five-year survival rate. But when the substance is added, the rate trebles.

Researchers from Queen Mary University in London have so far tested cannabidiol only on laboratory mice, but if similar results can be seen in people, it could be "in use in cancer clinics almost immediately," said lead researcher Marco Falasca.

Notice that this research was done in London. Most of the clinical studies, most of the evidence amassed for the beneficial qualities of cannabis, comes from Europe, Israel and Asia. Such research is prohibited in the U.S., in the same way that studies on genetic engineering are prohibited here.

And, done only on lab mice. If "human" clinical trials prove effective for pancreatic cancer, this would be a major breakthrough, as pancreatic cancer is almost always fatal. Worldwide, the incidence and death rate for pancreatic cancer is increasing, predicted to surpass colon cancer as the second leading of cause of cancer deaths by 2020. Over 40,000 Americans died from pancreatic cancer last year (70% died in the first year of diagnosis), with over 50,000 newly diagnosed cases each year. If CBD proved effective, the producers could not make it fast enough to keep up with demand worldwide.

The other concern is that mice age and die at a ate at least triple that of humans. Another reason why rodent results aren't always comparable to human experience.

Far more "rodent" trials than human trials. When I read about a new product or medicine, one of the first things I look for is whether the safety and efficacy tests were done in a lab (mice, in-vitro) or on humans. In vitro yields valuable info. and has come a long ways but it's not tests being conducted on real humans. Nowadays, we have the cosmetic industry, for example, using 3D reconstruction of skin models to test cosmetics that real people will be putting on their bodies. 3D reconstruction...really???
