Default Great News! Court Requires EPA To Ban Dangerous Chemical It Said It Wouldn't

With the Trump administration’s EPA unwilling to take even the most commonsense actions to help the environment and public safety, thank goodness we have a judicial system that’s willing to intervene sometimes. On Thursday, the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ordered the EPA to follow through with banning chlorpyrifos, a pesticide that research has pretty solidly connected to a bunch of health risks.
The EPA has just 60 days to eliminate chlorpyrifos use entirely, which is no small feat considering that the insecticide is one of the most widely used in the country.

So, one less harmful chemical on the market. According to EcoWatch, there are around 84,000 chemicals used today, but only a couple of hundred have been tested for human safety. A chemical industry trade association--the American Chemistry Council--(formerly the Chemical Manufacturers Association-CMA), disputes the 84,000 number, estimating the number is around 8,000. I'm laughing out loud because whether it's 84,000 or 8,000 if they have not been tested for human safety they shouldn't be in use. The Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) needs to be updated to require the EPA to ensure that every chemical in commercial use today be tested for human consumption. Not too much to ask...IMHO.

TSCA is just a feel good fake entity IMHO. Not to even pretend to take you down Mr Wiz, I greatly respect you and all you say. American Chemistry Council should be abolished they are anti-American in spirit

@Ora Moose: I respect you too. I think we're on the same side. TSCA has not done its job. It needs to be revamped and made stronger to require every chemical to be tested for human safety before being allowed in the commercial market.
