    Default Vitamin D For Asthma

    November 16 2018

Asthma, ďa chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways,Ē affects approximately 10 percent of children. About half the risk is genetically determined, but we may have some control over the rest, which is the focus of my video Vitamin D for Asthma.
One reason asthma rates may be rising is because of our rising rates of vitamin D deficiency. Kids just arenít going out to play anymore, which results in a doubling of vitamin D insufficiency levels in recent years, such that less than a quarter of U.S. teens hit the mark
We canít make vitamin D, known as the sunshine vitamin, from the light coming from our TV, phone, and computer screens. ďThe primary sources of this vitamin are natural production in the skin secondary to sun exposure, and secondarily from fortified foods and supplements

I can see the connection between childhood asthma and Vitamin D3 deficiency. Growing children also need vit. D3 for bone & teeth development, and healthy hair, eyes, etc. Sadly, dermatologist, pediatricians, et. al., have convinced parents that even when children are allowed to play outside in the sunshine they need to be lathered in sunscreen. The sun interacts directly with the skin to produce vit. D. But, this process is greatly hampered when the skin is covered with sunscreen.

You are right Mr. Wizard, nowadays people doesn't give the importance to the benefits which is given by the nature, they simply used cosmetic items instead of using the nature beauty. The morning sun rays provide lots of benefits to the body but our body is covered with cosmetic creams so we aren't getting the benefits.

@lizethwells: Another piece to this puzzle it that our children are getting more and more obese, due, in part, to the lack of activity. Research shows that obesity contributes to vit. D deficiency because fat tends to hold vit. D, instead of releasing it into the bloodstream so it can go where needed. So, the kids are becoming more obese, which increases their need for vit. D, and they're not outside enough to get adequate vit. D from the sun, complicating their asthma problems. It's a viscious cycle.
