Default Anti Supplement Push In EU

    November 28 2018

In a deeply retrogressive move, the Spanish government is planning a major crackdown on natural remedies, ranging from homeopathy through to food supplements, responding to a move by academic skeptics who have labelled them as ‘pseudoscience’ and claim they are responsible for deaths given that people prioritise their use over ‘proven’, conventional therapies

This sounds like a potential resurrection of Codex alimentarius, which we've heard nothing from for years (fortunately). The fact that the majority of the complaints surround weight-loss nostrums or erectile disfunction is enlightening. I'd fully support taking those nostrums offline, except for the danger that once begun, where do such prohibitions end?

This "anti-supplement push" will go nowhere. The genie is out of the bottle. People believe in food supplements, nutraceuticals, and overall homeopathic & alternative medicinal treatments. According to the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) 2017 study, over 170 million U.S. adults consume some form of supplement or nutraceuticals. The study also showed that as people become more "informed" they are more inclined to want to participate in taking charge of their own health. Thanks to the internet, people worldwide can almost instantaneously find natural solutions to their health problems. Further, growing numbers of people worldwide are afflicted with incurable conditions, like Alzheimer's, diabetes, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), etc. People will continue to research and find ways to complement their treatment for these and other incurable health issues. The genie's out of the bottle. BigPharma and others can try to stifle food supplements and alternative medical treatments, but it is extremely difficult to take away what millions worldwide now believe in.
