Default Hormones In US Beef Linked To Increased Cancer Risk

    Dr . Samuel S. Epstein
    October 21 2009

Beef produced in the United States is heavily contaminated with natural or synthetic sex hormones, which are associated with an increased risk of reproductive and childhood cancers, warns Dr. Samuel S. Epstein, Chairman of the Cancer Prevention Coalition.

"Increased levels of sex hormones are linked to the escalating incidence of reproductive cancers in the United States since 1975 - 60% for prostate, 59% for testis, and 10% for breast," Dr. Epstein says.

The hormones in past and current use include the natural estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, and the synthetic zeranol, trenbolone, and melengesterol.

Apologies - I didn't check the date before I posted, so this is quite old news.

"Apologies..." No apologies necessary, "Julieanne", as your post may help corroborate the thread I started last week about your neighbor's...err neighbour's steer, Knickers, in nearby Malyup, Western Oz. Perhaps you could visit Knickers, take some pix, and inquire about the possibility of growth hormones. Just kidding.

Sure, I'll just drop in - it's only 128km away, about 1 1/2 hours by car! I have actually been there, many years ago, when friends had a farm.

I have no reason to believe that the story isn't still pertinent. If anything, the use of chemicals and hormones in feedlots has increased. Anything for profit! This is the reason I buy organic grass-fed beef from local farmers I know personally.
