Ashwagandha worked well for me, boosting overall mood and increasing libido. Licorice root works best for most people in its deglycrrhizin form. The glycyrrhizin in licorice can be overpowering. However, deglycrrhizin licorice, or DGL, is more gentle and can be used for long periods without side effects. Those with chronic conditions, like Crohn's, IBS, colitis, etc., will benefit most from the gentle, soothing effects of DGL. A relative using DGL for Crohn's has enjoyed great relief for years.

I have bought some Ashwaganda to give to my son, who is going through an extremely stressful time right now. I hope they help. He has a friend with ulcerative colitis, so I will pass this on to him also. Thanks Mr Wiz.

Start gradually with ashwagandha and build up, as I find it to be a pretty powerful herb. Based on the people I know who have taken it, ashwagandha works equally well for both women and men.

Mr Wizard, what time of day do you take your ashwagandha?

I take with food. So, usually late afternoon, early evening....whenever I eat my largest meal. It's so potent I can't take on empty stomach.

Is it an extract, and if so what is the dosage?

Yes, it's an extract. I take half, sometimes less than half, of the recommended amount. Please check your HH mailbox. I sent you a message with the link to the product I take.

Because ashwagandha is such a powerful herb, some people need to be careful taking it. Side effects of Ashwagandha, include, lowering blood sugar; lowering blood pressure; and increasing thyroid hormone production. Also, pregnant women and breastfeeding moms should not take it.
