esearchers from the University of Oxford have determined that B vitamin supplementation can slow and possibly reverse the progression of Alzheimer's symptoms along with cognitive impairment

The researchers – from Oxford's Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences - conducted a clinical trial with 156 elderly patients who had mild cognitive impairment and a high risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

I've been taking one B-complex a day as part of my depression & insomnia cure. The combination seems to be helping.

"B Complex vits." are miracle workers. They improve my overall mood, give me a boost of energy during the day because they help burn food more efficiently, but then calms me at night, helping me to get a peaceful night's sleep. Also, when I take magnesium with B vits., I experience even more restful sleep. Magnesium glycinate is the best form for sleep because the magnesium is bound to glycine, a calming amino acid that promotes sleep.

Haha, that's another part of my regimen, Magnesium glycinate daily. Another piece is Melatonin with Theanine, which "supports healthy sleep, calmness and relaxation." Also, the first thing I do when I wake in the morning is step out onto the deck and look at the world. My theory is that exposure to daylight helps set circadian rhythms.

There is hard evidence to prove your theory that daylight exposure helps set the circadian rhythms. I don't have sleep problems, but a few people I know use melatonin with good success. Sounds like you have the sleep regimen down pretty solid. As active as you are most days, I don't know why you'd ever have any problems going night/night.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way with me Mr Wiz. My body wants to sleep but my brain doesn't! I regularly take magnesium and B vits, to no avail as far as sleep is concerned. I get lots of light during the day, outside and inside, as I have plenty of large windows. Couldn't bear living in a darker house where I couldn't look out and see trees.

Julie, I have the same problem. I may be tired but my brain doesn't get the message!

Truth? In the winter, maintaining HH, the greenhouse growers website, and the preaching I do on Facebook, I'm not as active as you think (or as I'd like). But I am still lugging wood and carrying water, and with this very shaggy dog I have to vacuum daily. I swear, with what she sheds in a week you could build a whole nother pet!

Maybe you could find someone who can use it. I've heard that some people actually weave with dog hair!

Magnesium Taurate is another form which is good for evening, along with Magnesium Glycinate. Magnesium Malate would be good for morning intake.

Just read a great article on the do's & don'ts of getting to sleep by the Alaskan Sleep Education Center. For ex., it notes that one can get melatonin from eating melatonin-rich foods, like tart cherries, asparagus, pomegranate, grapes, rice, barley, rolled oats, walnuts, sunflower seeds, mustard seeds, & flaxseed. More importantly, it addresses foods that can interfere with getting a good night's rest.
