    It consists of eight rounds of ultra-high-intensity exercises in a specific 20-seconds-on, 10-seconds-off interval. It may only take four minutes to complete a Tabata circuit, but those four minutes may well push your body to its absolute limit.

    A different set of exercises are done in a short period of time, these exercise has to be done with full intensity.

    I would include "fast-paced walking" to the list. I've found daily walking at a brisk pace sheds pounds. More importantly, walking reduces both visceral and subcutaneous fat, while preserving muscle mass, especially the muscles in the calves, thighs, and buttocks.

    That's more my style too, and I used to do it daily, until it became too painful. I agree, it helped to maintain my weight; without it I'm up 5 lbs. and have a tummy. I spoke to the superintendent of the Pain Management clinic today since it has been over a month since my exhaustive appointment and still no results. He faxed a copy of Dr. Ahmed's report again. I asked whether it had been sent earlier... no one seemed to know. That might explain a lot....

    Islander, I understand about walking being too painful. Would it help if you had some support, like a cane/stick? Last year, when I started PT recommended exercises, I could only walk any distance using a little support. It was better than not walking at all. Over that now, though I don't walk as fast as I used to, or as far. Just a thought.

    I suggest trikes over bikes because they can carry much cargo like groceries, tools, garden supplies, etc., without tipping over when stopped, (no "stall" speed), and with plenty physical therapy and exercise. Also, there may be hybrid electric versions available for extended trips. The only problem might be that deep winter snow in Maine.

    Thanks for the thought, Grulla, but not where I live. It would be impractical, in fact useless, around the farm and unsafe anywhere else on our rural roads. Besides, I'm not nearly that disabled yet, and after the follow-up on my Pain Management clinic consultation, no assistance may be necessary.

    Julie, I have a shepherd's crook from my 25 years as a shepherdess; it looks like a rugged cane, and in fact I have had to use it occasionally, first thing in the morning when pain is always worse. But not recently, so that's good.
