I consider The Guardian one of the better news sources. They don't insist on subscriptions either, but ask for donations in any amount, and I contribute when I can.
I've also heard some sources refer to the phenomenon as "climate catastrophe." We have to own up to the reality. Short of a miracle, we're cooked. Here in Maine, we're 10 days away from the traditional planting date (Memorial Day, May 31) but have had a long cold wet extended spring; both the ambient temperature and soil temperature are simply too cold to plant. There is standing water at one corner of my main garden, and more standing water that prevents me from mowing parts of the lawn — which I did on May 19, the latest ever!
