Default Baking Soda Can Eliminate 'Up To 96% Of Pesticides'

    July 10 2019

Researchers have found that baking soda can successfully eliminate up to 96% of pesticides from vegetables and fruits.
In fact, studies have shown that baking soda is even more effective at removing pesticides than regular bleaching procedures. Since baking soda is highly alkaline, it is able to neutralize pesticides by breaking them down into molecules.
University of Massachusetts published a study on the effects of baking soda on Gala apples. In the study Gala apples were sprayed with two types of pesticides – phosmet, which is a known insecticide, and thiabendazole, a fungicide.

This is good to know, since I can't always find organic grapes, or OG apples, cucumbers and tomatoes out of season.

Wish they'd been a little more specific with the instructions. 3 Tblspns. in a bowl of water??? I have small, medium, and really big bowls...what size? Lol. Let fruit soak for a "few" minutes. What's a few? 3 minutes, or 7 minutes, or is it 15? OK, I'm being really anal retentive here. But, I just paid $3 a pound for a bunch of non-organic cherries. Sure would hate to destroy them. Lol.

Mr Wiz, I doubt you could do any harm, however much you use. You could rinse it off after soaking if you feel concerned.

Thanks Julieanne. You're right...I probably can't do too much harm. Now, I need to check to make sure my baking soda does not contain aluminum.

    One can online search,

I remember "Islander" once mentioning the Arm 'n Hammer baking soda was pure and free of aluminum??? Also check Bob's Red Mill.

Yes, and so is Hannaford's (Aholz-Delhaize, they're global) house brand. Or it was the last time I looked, which was before corporate took over.

One has to constantly check ingredient labels for adverse changes. Recently, I noticed the Classico (Kraft-Heinz) USDA organic version pasta sauce contains calcium chloride on their ingredient list. https://articles.mercola.com/vitamin...-chloride.aspx

Why not make your own pasta sauce? Easy-peasy, just throw it in the skillet or crockpot and let it simmer all day! Of course, I don't have to go shopping: I have tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, herbs, olive oil etc. preserved right here at home!

I tried a couple of pasta sauces once. They were too sweet, so must have had added sugar. Not nice. I'll continue to make my own as it really is easy.

I checked. I have Bob's Red Mill. However, I'm down to my last bit of cherries and still haven't tried this.
