New York (CNN Business)Kentucky fried plant-based chicken is coming to a KFC in Atlanta this week.
In a test of Beyond Meat's latest fake meat creation, KFC will offer "Beyond Fried Chicken" at a single restaurant in Smyrna, Georgia, near Atlanta's SunTrust Park.
Beyond Meat (BYND) has added chicken to its lineup of plant-based products, which include burger, ground beef and sausage alternatives, among other meat substitutes. KFC will become the first nationwide fast food restaurant to test Beyond Meat's plant-based chicken.

Sounds "fowl" to me. The Colonel would probably roll over in his grave. If you want veggies, KFC has a reasonably nice tasting coleslaw, though it may be adulterated with sweetened mayo...ugh.

I was initially turned off by the increasing number of plant-based substitutes offered by fast food joints. So, I researched the ingredients in the real beef burgers and chicken products. Ingredients included, among other things, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, MSG derivatives, corn fiber & starch, sugar, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, silicon dioxide (an anti-caking agent), etc., etc. Bottom line: whether real meat or a plant-based product, these fast food joints are serving up loads and loads of unhealthy chemicals in their food.

The takeaway: Dismiss convenience. Plan ahead; make time to shop organic and cook real food from scratch.

We've all become far too dependent upon convenience and creature comforts--especially millenials, who account for the largest segment of the fast food industry customer base.

I see increasing numbers of convenience items when I do my weekly grocery run. What's interesting is that many of these shortcuts save little time. If you're serving pasta, you have time to prep salad ingredients while the noodles are cooking. How long does it take to boil a few eggs to have on hand in the fridge? (I see boiled & shelled eggs for sale). How long to cut up a head of broccoli? A head is 99¢/lb.; broccoli florets? $8/lb. Yet people spend that kind of money because I see them bagged, priced, ready to take home. Insane!
