Eating nuts at least twice a week is associated with a 17% lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, according to research presented today at ESC Congress 2019 together with the World Congress of Cardiology.

Wish I could eat nuts (walnuts, pecans, etc.). In my late 20s, I had a scary allergic reaction while eating a can of mixed nuts, and had to rush to the emergency room. In the 4 decades since, I've not been able to bring myself to try nuts again. But, I can eat all the cocktail peanuts my heart desires.

I remember getting sick on peanuts as a six-year-old. I think I simply overindulged, but it took me years to even look at another peanut. Adult as an adult, I use a handful of dry roasted peanuts in Thai dishes, and offer them when I serve Indian curry, period.
But I do keep a variety of mixed nuts on hand for snacks, salads or when called for in a recipe. A Waldorf salad requires walnuts with apples and raisins. Granola demands almonds. I like pecans in my tossed salad. I know a couple of Brazil nuts will supply my daily need for selenium. Mr. Wizard, I wish I could persuade you to sample a molecule or two of one tree nut at a time in order to pinpoint any potential allergic reaction, and rule out a long list of safe nuts that carry so many beneficial nutrients!

I wish you could persuade me too. This old dog can be mighty stubborn when it comes to learning new tricks. Lol.
