The right amount of sleep is protective of heart health. This was the conclusion of new research that found sleep duration can influence a person's risk of heart attack, regardless of other heart risk factors, including genetic ones.

In a recent Journal of the American College of Cardiology paper, scientists from the United States and the United Kingdom describe how they analyzed sleep habits and medical records of 461,347 people aged 4069 years living in the U.K.

The duration of sleep is just part of the picture. Just as important, or perhaps more important, is the "quality of sleep." If you're in the bed for 7 or 8 hours a night, but tossing and turning and waking up off and on, requiring 20 minutes or more to fall back to sleep, that's not quality sleep. If one gets up 2 or 3 times a night to go to the bathroom or is awaken several times a night because of due to some sort of sleep disturbance, that's not quality sleep. So, duration of sleep, without factoring in quality sleep, is woefully misguiding to reach such an important conclusion regarding heart attacks.

It is stated that an adult should have an average sleep of 7 hours. Not hearth attack alone, lack of sleep can risk your health in a lot of ways!
