    Taking a daytime nap once or twice a week may halve the risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure.

    This is the main takeaway of an observational study appearing in the BMJ journal Heart.

    Nadine Häusler, Ph.D., from the department of internal medicine at Lausanne University Hospital, in Switzerland, is the first author of the study.

    This study involved Swiss participants. Would like to see a study done in places like Brazil, Greece, Mexico, where the afternoon siesta is a cultural staple. I've never been much for naps, but can see the benefits, especially for those of us who experience disturbed sleep. I read a study by the Sleep Foundation, which found naps improved cognitive and memory functions for people over 65, but didn't do much for their heart health. I didn't see that this study made an age distinction.
