Default Santa Fe company creates first alternative for human remains after cremation

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) A Santa Fe start-up is changing the way we think of death, creating a new alternate to receiving ashes after a loved one dies. The company Parting Stone partnered with Los Alamos National Lab to develop a new technology to offer people something different.

When faced with the loss of his grandfather, Justin Crowe looked at how others went through the grieving process. He noticed things were a little different for those who had a loved one cremated.

After he died, I started to look at how other people were dealing with loss, said Crowe. I found that everyone was keeping cremated remains in their closet, their basement or their garage and I thought that was a really tragic, really tragic thing.

Just think, now we can continue the rest of eternity as a paper weight, door stop, or jewelry stones. Why not sequester the carbon ashes in one's garden?

This seems to be a fairly novel idea, albeit a bit expensive ($24 each is no bargain). Nice to see pets can be done too!

$24 each? "The service costs $595 for human remains, $395 for dogs and $295 for cats."
I guess if you have saved the staggering cost of an elaborate coffin, you can afford to turn your loved one into a sack full of stones!

Yes, $595 for human remains, which results in an end product of about 25 stones. That's $24 per stone??? Perhaps, I misread something.

No no, I just wasn't following the math.
