Default CDC: Stop Falsely Claiming Not To Accept Corporate Money

SHINGTON, D.C. – Public health, government watchdog and public interest groups today petitioned the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to cease making false disclaimers that it “does not accept commercial support” and has “no financial interests or other relationships with the manufacturers of commercial products.” The CDC makes such disclaimers hundreds of times in its publications and on its website, despite that the National Foundation for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has accepted for it nearly $80 million from drug companies and other commercial manufacturers during fiscal years 2014-2018.

That's outrageous! It calls into question every pronouncement made by the CDC.

So, technically, the "Nat'l Foundation" for CDC is separate and distinct from the gov't agency CDC. In 1992, Congress authorized the "Foundation" as a 503 (c) charitable organization, with ties to the agency CDC. So, when CDC says it does not accept corporate money, it is stating a difference without a distinction. Of course they accept corporate money...oh no, wait...that's the Foundation. Lol.

According to Vaccineimpact.com, the CDC paid the state of Maryland $123 Million to promote Gardasil as a requirement for school attendance. Presumably, the funds came from CDC's corporate arm. If this happened in Maryland, no doubt all the other states have received similar monetary incentives. This helps to explain why Merck predicts sales from Gardasil will be near $7 Billion in a few years.
