A person's daily omega-3 needs vary depending on their age, sex, and various health factors.
People give omega-3 fatty acids a lot of attention due to their health benefits. Fatty fish, nuts, and seeds are rich in omega-3s.
Omega-3s are important parts of the body's cell membranes, and they help with the functioning of the heart, lungs, immune system, and hormone system.

The amount of nuts, seeds, fatty fish and olive oil that I consume in a week is probably less than the recommended quantity, so I do take a supplement just for insurance. The recommended dose is 4 capsules but sometimes I take only two because I have been eating salmon or sardines. I am more concerned with the omega-3 vs. omega six balance than with the actual amount.

I'm intrigued by questions like, "how much calcium, magnesium, vitamin K, omega-3, etc. does one need each day?" The answer in every case is..."it depends." Consuming loads of dairy and calcium rich foods increases one's need for magnesium and vit. K too. Vit. K2 directs calcium to teeth and bones. In the case of omega 3, Islander hit it on the nose. The amount of omega 3 needed depends on how much omega 6 and omega 9 you consume. Best source for omega 3 is Wild caught Salmon; best sources for omega 6 are nuts and seeds; Olive oil is best source for omega 9. In the Western world, we over-consume omega 6, due primarily to use of vegetable oils. "Experts" recommend a 4:1 ratio of omega 6 to 3. Most Americans have a ratio of 20:1 and habitual "fast food eaters" are up around 50:1, due to the oils used to deep fry everything. As Islander said, balance is key!!

I was surprised to learn that only walnuts are high in omega-3s. Chia seeds and ground flaxseeds are also on the list. I have a recipe for ground flaxseeds that I sometimes use for breakfast. https://www.hawkeshealth.net/communi...ad.php?t=18712

Most nuts and seeds are high in Omega 6 fatty acids, which are fine, but as mentioned it is the balance which is quite important.
