As the death toll increases to more than 900, a Chinese official has warned the deadly respiratory infection can be caught through aerosol transmission.

An official in Shanghai confirmed the virus wasn't just passed on through human contact but can float long distances through the air.
This means the coronavirus can cause infections when breathed in, the Chinese official said.

Compared to other coronaviruses, this one is more like SARS than MERS in terms of the aerosol transmission. What's even scarier to me is that the current coronavirus--called Cov19--can live on surfaces, like aluminum, paper, wood, plastic, and glass for up to 5 days. For perspective, the virus that causes measles only lives up to 2 hours on objects. Fortunately, hydrogen peroxide and ethanol appears to be effective disinfectants for Cov19.

For a brief period of about 24 hours it appeared that the infection in China had leveled off, but more careful diagnostic techniques have shown that this is not the case. The impact of employees staying home and factories shutting down is beginning to be felt on a global scale.

Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control, stated yesterday on CNN that some version of the coronavirus will be with us for years to come. He said we can expect to see this each year, like the common influenza virus that appears every winter. In other words, get used to it..cause it's here to stay. Yet another reason to fortify diet with vitamin C, especially lemons, raw garlic, ginger, oregano, cinnamon, zinc, and other anti-viral nutrients.

I wonder why that should be, when SARS and MERS don't reeappear in any kind of a pattern.
