Default My Journey Through Tijuana for the Best Surgery $2,000 Can Buy

Given the cost of healthcare and medical insurance in the US today, medical tourism is becoming increasingly popular. I've read stories of people getting top-notch professional care in immaculately clean conditions with excellent food in India, Cuba and Spain. Friends of mine had dental implants done in Mexico. The total cost for travel, lodging and actual medical care was still a tiny fraction of what the procedure would have cost at home.

Orthopedic surgery would have bankrupted us in the United States. So we went to Mexico instead.

Holy shit, my husband said when he saw the doctors son pull over and park his car next to a small, concrete building in the neighborhood of Nueva Tijuana. The exterior paint of the clinic was peeling and there were bars on the windows. We parked and stared at the clinic silently without getting out of the truck. Id hoped $2,000 for orthopedic surgery was going to buy us something a little nicer than this.

Your link is not working for me??? People around my neck of the woods go for reasonable dental work in the border town of Palomas, Mexico, just south of Columbus, NM and appx 30 miles south of I10 at Deming, NM. Columbus is where Pancho Villa raided the U.S. at back in 1916. https://www.history.com/this-day-in-...bus-new-mexico

Working OK too. One has to scroll down a bit to overcome that unnecessary huge overhead blank margin. It's not the first time that I've been fooled by something like that, DOH!

"...huge overhead blank margin.." I don't know what you're seeing here. But as long as the link takes you to the story, well, that's all that matters.

Nice interesting and informative report, as I finally had a chance to completely read it. I had to chuckle a bit as to how the patient bargained to get the surgery price from $10K to $3.5K and then further down to $2K, sort of like being at a third world flea market.

The blog also touched on the subject of root canals south of the border. Root canals (RC) can usually be dangerous because they typically harbor hidden pathogens. https://drjockers.com/root-canals/

My own experience a few years back was that I was given the choice between RC and an implant, so because I was impatient due to a previous time consuming year long implant ordeal, not to mention saving a few bucks, I opted for the RC...big mistake, I was back within a year with a failed RC that was finally replaced with an implant. And my own dentist admitted that the implant did not cost that much more than the RC, especially if one factors in the failure rate.

My point is that one can opt for a cost effective complete and permanent implanted zirconium denture. And if one is traveling south of the border, then based on this article, I would venture to guess and say that the whole complete implanted denture procedure could be done at a very reasonable price. At the very least, it's worth investigating. https://www.medicinenet.com/dental_implants/article.htm
