We deconstruct confusion around a Yale study that suggests that long-term ketogenic diets will make you fat and unhealthy

It’s World Obesity Day and everyone’s talking about how we can lose weight. Sadly, it seems it’s more ‘talk’ than ‘do’ as global obesity rates continue to soar. The US has just reached an all-time high with 40% of adults now being classified as obese.

If you’ve been sitting on the fence, wondering if moving to a drug and scalpel free ketogenic diet (KD) is a good way to lose weight and reduce your future risk of disease, you may have decided to put any plans for the KD on the back burner.
That’s assuming you got wind of some recent KD critical reporting in the likes of Science Daily and Food Navigator.

Yes. Certainly in the short-term, it appears that way. For the first two to six months, there's evidence that a very low-carbohydrate diet can help you lose more weight than the standard high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet, according to a new literature review of low-carb diets by the National Lipid Association.

And even so, the FDA has issued its annual dietary recommendations which remain absolutely unchanged from previous years, meaning they haven't revised the most harmful suggestions in their nutritional plan. No wonder we have so many earnest people trying to eat right and yet becoming type two diabetics.

And no wonder so much distrust has built up about the official government recommendations for anything. When so many official edicts have been revealed to be just so much BS, sponsored by various corporate interests, just about anything which is put out by the official sources becomes suspect in its entirety.
