A new study on the mysterious origins of a deadly fungal infection that seemed to have simultaneously emerged in far-flung corners of the globe finds that global warming may be to blame.
Candida auris, a fungus that can kill anyone who comes into close contact with a carrier, was first identified in 2009 in a Japanese patient with an ear infection. It then started showing up in hospitals in Asia, Africa and South America in patients without a clear link — and no one could figure out why.

So, candida auris is one of many types of candida. Candida albican is the most common candida type, which most people have in their gut flora. The problems begin when candida overgrows, like in a vaginal yeast infection or as in oral thrush. We frequently discuss the benefits of eating plenty of "fermented foods." But, that's exactly what you DON'T want to do if you have candida overgrowth. Fermented foods feed the good bacteria, as well as the bad. So, you don't want to over indulge in fermented foods if you have an overgrowth. Also, grapefruit seeds--not grape seeds, but grape-fruit seeds--as in grapefruit seed extract (GSE) has shown the ability to successfully fight candida. Since the experts claim candida auris is a drug-resistant germ, they may want to give GSE a try.
