Default Corona Virus - Working From Home - Rethink City Planning

We have seen an unprecedented rise in the number of people working from home as directed by governments and employers around the world to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
If, as some expect, people are likely to work from home more often after the pandemic, what will this mean for infrastructure planning? Will cities still need all the multibillion-dollar road, public transport, telecommunications and energy projects, including some already in the pipeline?

Once the pandemic ends, as we hope and believe and trust and expect that it will, the future that awaits us could potentially veer off in dozens of different directions, some of them utterly imaginable at the present time. One staggering difference that this article does not address is the dramatic reduction in CO2 and pollution of every kind in the months since we have been in quarantine. My vision of the future is in its infancy, but it includes blue skies, empty highways, fresh air and vast silences punctuated often by the song of birds and in the morning, the crowing of roosters. Just imagine: we could avoid the catastrophic disaster of climate change... By simply doing nothing.

The cloud may turn out to have a silver lining after all! There are a lot of articles - and petitions - that stress the need for a better, greener future. Let's not talk about going back to normal: we have a chance to do something to change things for the better. If the same energy that went into dealing with coronavirus was put into addressing climate change we might see a future like you describe. We can only dream!

And yet, the ordinary working people are being driven back to the "old normal" working situation, even though the workplace has turned lethal, just because the profit taking class has begun to feel the pinch.
